Flu, not to be sneezed at!

The Influenza virus, which causes the well known Flu symptoms, is highly contagious and spreads through air borne droplets, often from a cough or a sneeze. One sneeze can spread the flu up to a metre! Research shows that healthy working adults vaccinated against the flu have half the number of Doctor’s visits and nearly half the number of sick days from work.

The flu is a vaccine preventable disease, however vaccines must be given each year as the flu viruses are always changing. For the upcoming influenza season, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has recommended the inclusion of 3 vaccine strains in the 2012 vaccine.

A vaccination program, together with promoting good hygiene measures (eg washing hands with soap and water or an alcohol based hand cleaner, covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, and throwing these used tissues in a plastic lined rubbish bin), can significantly reduce the risk of a flu outbreak in your workplace.

Jobfit’s 2012 flu vaccination program will commence early March, and our occupational health professionals will vaccinate more than 6,000 Australian workers, protecting them and your business from the flu.

To protect your business from the flu, register your interest for Jobfit’s 2012 vaccination program by calling 1800 994 808 or email flu@jobfit.com.au.
